While Mesuni rambled on, Jamie kept trying to interrupt.
"No, it's--"
"Well--"
"Just--"
He was trying to say something, anything, to get her to shut up and tell her it was okay. When it was clear he wasn't going to be able to tell her it was alright, he did like her (how juvenile did that sound?), he just took her gently by the shoulders and leaned down to give her a gentle kiss on the lips.

That shut Mesuni up. The kiss came as such a surprise she didn't even kiss him back. She bit her bottom lip and looked up at him. Now at a complete loss of words. "That's not fair, I wasn't ready." Her mind seemed to have gone fuzzy with just one little kiss.

"Who says you have to be ready?" Jamie asked, smiling down at her, glad he'd shut her up.

"I do," Mesuni replied in a little voice that was very un-Mesuni. "If I knew kissing was allowed I would have kissed you while you were making that silly salad for me..." She smiled. She couldn't stop looking at Jamie, hoping the kiss meant what she thought it meant. "So just to be sure... You like me, don't you?"

He laughed. "Why else would I have kissed you? Aside to get you to shut your mouth so you'd stop rambling," Jamie said, still smiling at her.

"Okay, good. Well how was I supposed to know? You might be one of those 'quiet ones' people always talk about... Mild mannered day man and super freak at night..." Mesuni beamed and actually did a little happy dance. "Just so you know, kisses won't always work to shut me up." She said as a warning.

Super freak at night? I think not. Jamie didn't say that, obviously. The happy dance did make him chuckle. "I just... didn't want to... frighten you off?" he said, knowing it sounded lame. "The fact that you're considerably younger than me, and I've got a kid, and nutters ex-wife baggage. All of that."

"Frighten me? Ha! I don't scare easily." Mesuni replied. "We all have issues, for all you know, I could could have some super psycho jealous ex-bodybuilder ex-boyfriend..." She gave Jamie a look that said: it could be true.
(ooc: I edited this Lanie, because my first replied was a little weird...)

"Somehow I believe that would have come up earlier, though I could probably take the ex-bodybuilder." Yeah, right, but Jamie knew it was a joke.

"Okay, you've got me. No ex-bodybuilder ex." Mesuni smiled at him. "Would that worry you if there was one?" Mesuni was curious about them as a possible couple. "What now?"

Jamie gave Mesuni a little smirk that just didn't look right. "Only if he was a bodybuilder," he said lightly. "I... I don't know. I'm glad Charlotte likes you. You know what you're getting into with me..."

"I have a good idea what I am getting into. I like Charlotte too, I'd like her even if I didn't like you," she smiled at him. She was feeling very happy and giddy and girly. "I mean what do we do now? It's still early. You want to hang out with me still, I know you do."

Jamie was still a bit stuck on the idea of what they were. He was a math nerd, he thought like that; he wanted to quantify everything. But he didn't say so. Instead, he smiled and said, "Maybe we could watch a film? Granted pretty much every DVD I've got is Charlotte's..."

"Sounds good, if one of those DVD's happens to be The Little Mermaid or pretty much anything Disney." Mesuni wasn't shy, and since she now knew he liked her too, being the one to make the first moves didn't bother her at all. Mesuni smiled at Jamie and grabbed his hand and pulled him toward the living room. His hand was warm and Mesuni liked the feel of holding it. "You didn't have other plans did you? I hate to think I was whoring in on your evening..."

Sometimes Mesuni never ceased to amaze or amuse him with her choice of words. He wasn't like that, because he was still totally stuck on being the polite gentleman his mother raised, but at least he could laugh at it. "Why would I have had other plans? You seem to think I have a life."

"See we have so much in common. I don't have a life either," Mesuni smiled and sat down on the sofa waiting for Jamie to join her. "I skate and go home, then wake up and skate... Sometimes I hang out with my friends, mostly I skate." She answered with a nod of her head.

"No athlete has a life. I know how that is. Now it's work, come home, sleep. Work, skate sometimes, work. Hang around with you or Charlotte. Work more. Skate more if I feel like it. Maybe I should have just stuck it out one more season just so I didn't have to work." He sat down next to her but only for a moment, getting on his knees to examine the DVDs he stored in the cabinets on the TV stand. "Lots and lots of Disney."

"I have no life and yet I love it," Mesuni replied. "I'm a home body anyway so I am happy just being lazy and watching tv at the end of the day. It's lame but it's me. The last time I out clubbing Sky Deveroux grabbed my boob and told me Kai was prettier..."

"I've never been in a club, and that's just wrong," was Jamie's opinion on the whole thing. "I'd like to be lazy, but I'm used to chasing after Charlotte all the time. That kid is the Energizer Bunny. I don't remember being like that at her age, but I don't remember being four."
|

"You've never been to a club? What about a pub? I've never been to a pub, but then again I can't legally drink here... Chasing after Charlotte seems like an awesome way to keep in shape, which you have, so good for you. According to the Mother, I was skating at age three, so I was still skating at four, so I was probably too tired at the end of the day to annoy my parents or tire them out... Pretty tricky. You at four was probably very cute... The little Gentleman."

Jamie laughed at Mesuni's idea of him at four. "Probably. Though my brothers all put me through the wringer, being the baby," he said, shaking his head. "A pub? Of course. I've had my wild 'let's get really drunk' days. Not fun now, but it was fun when I was nineteen and stupid."

"Why do you keep saying things like '19 and stupid' and 'young and stupid'. Are you trying to drop a subtle hint or something?" She asked, almost sounding serious. "So, you used to get drunk and let loose. That would be interesting to see... I should get you drunk."

"I was stupid. You know. Being at uni, having friends who liked to party. It scarred me," Jamie joked, rolling his eyes at her. "Me, drunk? No. Not anymore. Sorry. I did tell some girl I was gay when I was smashed so she would stop flirting with me..."

"You were young, it happens. Tell me stories of your stupid youth?" Mesuni said looking at him with a glint in her eyes. "You told a girl you were gay and she believed you? Stupid girl. I don't like to drink either so that won't be an issue... But I bet you drunk is very entertaining."

"I don't have many stories," Jamie admitted, "because I was a goody two-shoes. Surprising, isn't it?" He was trying to be wry about it but hell, he couldn't do sarcasm very well, though he tried. "Anyhow. Yes. She believed me, but she was pretty drunk too, so I think that was part of the problem. Got her away from me, didn't it?" He paused to think of other ridiculous things he did. "Honestly, nothing too horrible. I don't have a criminal record," he joked. "I took a few exams hungover. Didn't go so well. Study sessions in the library smashed, I did that. Some friends of mine and I got lost on the tube once and we got kicked off for being drunken fools. That's about it. Sorry, nothing scandalous."

Mesuni was on the verge of laughing at his drunken tales. "While I am not at all surprised, I can't help being a little disappointed. Tell me something interesting." Mesuni paused, then thought what the hell, she was goofy. "We can play truth or dare?"

"It's more fun drunk," quipped Jamie. "Sure. You start, you're the one who wants to know everything. You're lucky I'm honest."

"Very true, but since you don't drink and I CAN'T drink, this is all we have. Okay, truth or dare?" Mesuni smiled, she had to ask, his answer would obviously be truth.

She was right. "Truth. I'm afraid of what you'd dare me to do."

"You are no fun at all," Mesuni replied. "What do you think I would dare you to do? Seriously that is my question."
