"You don't want to ruin your Olympic team shirt?" Jamie joked. "Sure, I'll wait. Maybe."

"You have to wait!" Mesuni scowled at him. "What else are you going to do?" She rolled her eyes and skated off the ice. "Wait for me! I mean it!" She turned and said to Jamie before heading off toward the locker rooms.

Of course he waited, taking off his skates and putting on some shoes while he hung around wondering why it took women so long to get dressed and ready. It always did. It never failed. "Finally!" Jamie exclaimed when Mesuni came out. He liked to tease her, simply because she took it well, unlike most women he'd known.

Mesuni made a face, she wasn't gone nearly as long as she usually took to get ready. "It takes time to look this good! Plus I smelled like sweat, not okay." She admitted without a blink of an eye. "Aren't you glad you waited?" She teased. "Lead the way!"

At her words he just flashed her a million watt smile of amusement, shaking his head. "Let's go, then."
Lucky for the both of them, Jamie's apartment wasn't too far from the rink. It was a nice complex, probably expensive, but he had to find somewhere nice and safe to live considering he usually had Charlotte with him.
"I've still got no idea on what I ought to cook," Jamie said as he held the door open for her. "Maybe I should just grab a bunch of stuff and see what I can do with it. If it's horrid, then we can go somewhere."

"Let's raid your fridge for anything edible. Feed me!" Mesuni pouted playfully. She stepped in and looked around his place, it looked like a grownup lived there. Mesuni wasn't sure what to expect. "Where is your kitchen?"

"It'll be nice for me not to have peanut butter sandwiches for dinner because I've got to acquiesce to a four year old," Jamie joked. "Here." He walked over to the kitchen and opened the fridge, eyeing all the stuff in there. "Chicken maybe? You're the guest, you decide."

"I love peanut butter, no jelly though," Mesuni replied with a smile. "Hmm..." she said looking over his shoulder and peering into his fridge. "We can have baked chicken and a nice cobb salad, how does that sound?" Mesuni suggested, walking away from Jamie and taking a seat on top of the counter. "Impress me Axel-Man."

"I'll try," said Jamie who had no bloody clue about salads, but he went ahead and obeyed Mesuni's wishes, making her a salad of some sort with some chicken on the side. "I hope this is good enough for you!"

Mesuni kicked her feet in amusement as she watched him cook. It was sweet that he tried to make whatever she wanted. "I'll eat anything," Mesuni teased with shrug. "You don't usually eat salads I'm guessing. It looks lovely. Thank you." She hopped off the counter and took both of their plate to the table.

"You're quite welcome. You'd better eat it." Jamie was speaking with good humor, at least, as he sat down, first pulling Mesuni's chair out for her, of course. He didn't know what to talk about once they were sitting down picking at their food. "So..."

"It's good," Mesuni said after taking a bite of food. "If you fall in to awkward silence I'll bite you! So, we're going to talk, okay. Let's see, I'll ask you a question, you ask me one. We're friends so don't worry, you can't offend me. And next time I'll cook..." Mesuni smiled at him. He was cute and nervous and just swoon-worthy. "Have you ever not done the right thing?"

Laughing nervously, or more like bashfully, Jamie admitted, "No, probably not. It's how I was raised. Be polite. Do things for other people. Especially be nice to women or your mother will murder you horribly in your sleep. That sort of thing." He paused to think about something to ask and settled on, "How long have you been in America? I know, terribly boring, but it's all I could think of."

"I didn't say it was a bad thing, most men aren't even half as polite as you are." Mesuni pointed out. Mesuni had her share of stupid boy experiences, it was nice to be with a normal man, not that she was WITH Jamie..."I've lived in America for almost seven years. We moved to Colorado to train when I was thirteen. I like it here. How long have you lived in America?" Mesuni asked back, because she really wanted to know.

Eyebrows raised at the revelation, Jamie was definitely surprised she'd been here for so damn long. "Seven years, huh," he mused to himself. "Just about a year. Not long at all. It wasn't really for skating."

"So you've said. You came here for a job? Are you happy here?" She wondered out loud. "Sometimes I want to go home, but I like being on my own, just me and Kai." Mesuni said with a thoughtful tone.

"Mostly. I didn't intend on competing last season," Jamie explained, "but I thought, 'What the hell, another Olympics, let's see what happens.' So they let me work a bit, while I mostly skated; and now that I'm done, work and a bit of skating." He shrugged. "It worked out, I think. I'm not exactly...fond of it here, but I don't intend on staying too long. To be honest, it was more about feeling like I needed to be somewhere else, somewhere new."

"Are you glad you did? You had a strong season, you must be a little proud of that?" Mesuni didn't want to talk about him leaving. "Why did you need to get out of London?" She finally asked after a strained moment of silence.

"A bit. An Olympic medal is pretty nice but... I never cared much about that." He paused. "Ah. Well. Funny thing, that." Jamie was smiling but it was strained and not at all funny. "My ex-wife. She left us. Charlotte and me, I mean," he said, looking at his plate before glancing back to Mesuni, wanting to gauge her reaction before he divulged anything more.

Mesuni made a half sad half angry face. "I don't understand how anyone leave you. I really don't understand how anyone could leave Charlotte! What a bitch!" Mesuni was angry at this women she didn't even know. "I'm sorry that was rude, but I don't get it. You're a great guy and Charlotte is amazing..."

"It was going to happen sooner or later. It was for the best." Jamie shrugged. "The only good thing I got out of that was Charlotte. It was a mess." He spoke flatly, as if this woman didn't bother him anymore. In a sense it didn't, but it still hurt. "Everyone I know hates her. You're one of many,' he joked dryly.

"It's not funny if she hurt you," Mesuni said in a serious voice. "She is missing out on something very special by not being with Charlotte, stupid woman," Mesuni scowled, she set her fork down, she wasn't hungry anymore. "If you are really better off without her, I am happy for you... Um... how long have you been divorced?" Mesuni couldn't tell if this was something that happened recently or not.

"It was for the best," Jamie said, this time his voice firmer, like he actually believed it--which he did, after a year of trying to convince himself of that fact. "Marrying her was one of the stupidest things I've ever done. When you're young, you're stupid. That's my advice, don't get in relationships with crazy people," he said, this time his voice lighter. "It's been a year."

"I resent that remark," Mesuni made a face. "Maybe you were just stupid when you were young. I happen to be brilliant... People can't help who they are attracted too, and it's not stupid to like people. Emotions can't be reasoned with." Mesuni realized she was babbling again. "I talk to much... I always talk too much..."

"I was stupid because I was in love with someone who wasn't in love with me," explained Jamie, rather blunt for his usual easy-going nature. "You'd better not get yourself into such trouble with people, or else then I'd have to tell you you were not brilliant and 'I told you so'."

"That sucks, you - everyone deserves to be loved well," Mesuni stammered slightly. "Ha, right, last boyfriend was a loser who I was happy to be rid of. I am much better at deciding the kind of person I want to be with. If you dared mutter 'I told you so' at me I'd kick you butt," Mesuni smiled.

"I told you so," Jamie said with a laugh. "Everyone deserves it, I suppose, but it seems it happens for everyone else. All my brothers are lucky, happy with their families."

"Brat," Mesuni shook her head. "I can't believe that it won't happen for you," Mesuni said. "Honestly I am surprise you aren't spoken for..." Mesuni looked at him and suddenly blurted out. "I like you, you know I like you don't you? How could you not know..." Mesuni saw the look of surprise creeping into his face. "Crap... Okay, you cooked dinner, so it's only fair that I do the dishes... Then I'll get out of your hair..." Mesuni stood up and gathered the dishes before he could say anything and marched toward the kitchen.

For a moment, he sat there staring at her. Jamie thought maybe she did like him, but she was nineteen. They were friends. He liked her, and thought maybe if she was a bit older, it would be different... He thought way too much--worried way too much--about things like that. While she went bustling about the kitchen to take care of the dishes, he thought some more. He liked her. More importantly, she liked him and Charlotte. What was the problem? The problem was that Jamie just worried about everything. He got up to follow her to the kitchen, really not wanting her to do the dishes. She was a guest. Hesitantly he stood by her, not saying anything, not knowing what to say as she puttered around.

Mesuni was nearly finished cleaning by the time Jamie joined her in the kitchen. He didn't say anything, that had to be bad thing. Mesuni put on a brave face and faced him as she placed the last of the dishes on the drying rack. "So... Umm... Please don't be weirded out by me... It's okay if you don't like me like that... I mean, why would you... We can just be friend. I like hanging out with you and Charlotte..." She tried to sound cheerful and unaffected. Truthfully she wanted to fall into a hole and die from embarrassment.
