Kyo was on his way to Cafe Mocha, his new job. His first visit to the place was--he had promised himself--not to be the last, and in the end, he had liked it so much, he had made a very adamant request for a job there. It was popular and lively, not-too-far from everywhere else of personal importance, and the other employees whom he had met his first day there as a "customer" had seemed friendly enough. "I would like to be apart of this family," he had told Danil with a wink.
And now here he was. An official member of Cafe Mocha, and he would soon be working his first day. School had just let out, and Kyo had left the building in his school uniform. He wasn't too worried about being late, the school was relatively close, but he preferred to be earlier, so he could talk to his boss if need be, and change out of his uniform. Admittedly, he was a little nervous about messing up a customer's drinks or typing in the wrong numbers on the cash register (he did confuse 3 and 5 a lot with the Arabic numerals), but he expected if he requested to just do cleanup or bus-ing for a bit, he should be fine for now.
Entering into the cafe, Kyo was surprised to see someone he already knew. Someone from his school, dressed in the exact same uniform, but in the girls' style. Kyo smiled. "Hel-lo...I did not know you work-ed-ah here?"

June was sitting at a table near the door, her little nephew was sleeping in his stroller. Normally she wouldn't be bothering her sister at work, but Pil'Du wasn't feeling well, and to be honest June felt better having Na Yoon nearby. She was working on her homework when she noticed someone walking in. She smiled at the young man
"Konnichi Wa!" She waved excitedly. She hadn't made many friends, mostly because the kids at her school were shallow and boring, but not Kyo. "No, my sister works here. What are you doing here?" It was interesting to see him outside of school.

Kyo was admittedly a little nervous. It wasn't that June had ever given him a reason to dislike her or even that he got the impression that she didn't like him. No, certainly not anything serious like that. It was more like he hadn't really found his niche when it came to girls. He hadn't yet befriended any of the girls in his class and often found himself too shy to approach any of them.
June was actually in his class. And what was funny about her was the impression she gave him, like she owned the world. Or was at least capable of doing so. It was refreshingly and humorously intimidating. And it certainly wasn't a bad thing. Anyway, it was just nice to hear someone speak his native language to him.
"Konnichi Wa!"
Kyo was actually taken aback by how enthusiastic she was to see him. This was their first real time together talking. Well, he couldn't deny it was infectious. He found himself beaming and waving back.
"No, my sister works here, to answer his question. What are you doing here?"
Kyo decided to play it off cool, like he wasn't as nervous about working at a popular American cafe as he actually was. "This is my new workplace--I am just hired. So...ano..." Um" ...yes, I will be working here for a while."
If I do okay... he couldn't help thinking.
"Do you come here often? And..." Kyo paused. "You are in my class, yes?" He knew this, he was just playing dumb for the sake of having something to say. "Uhhh, did we have an assign-eh-mento?"

June smiled widely. She often got the impression that she made people nervous. It wasn't something that she did on purpose, but her confidence was, as her sister put it, overwhelming. She glanced down at her nephew, who was still sound asleep, then back to Kyo
"This is my new workplace--I am just hired. So...ano..." Um" ...yes, I will be working here for a while."
"That's great! I really like this place."
"Do you come here often? And..." Kyo paused. "You are in my class, yes?" He knew this, he was just playing dumb for the sake of having something to say. "Uhhh, did we have an assign-eh-mento?"
"I come here for dinner when I am too busy to cook or if I am just bored." June giggled at his next question. "Yes, I sit a couple of rows from you. We have to read chapters 9 through 11," she said holding up the text book. No one had really spoken to her, except a couple of shallow girls that heard she was rich. "Are you excited to be working here?"

Kyo sighed to himself. He was just not a hit with girls. He never had been--he'd always been far too shy to approach the girls he liked back home. In the end, he'd always come across as being either just that--too shy--or the kind of guy who thought he was too good for the girls in the school, when Kyo oftentimes felt like it was the other way around. He didn't want his school-life here to go like that.
Maybe he could ask Alexander Rhoades how he could be so charismatic? Gah... Kyo almost laughed at himself. He decided he epitomized the American expression "lame."
Anyway, he must have said something decent, because June was looking pretty happy.

Kyo almost forgot he had asked about homework. He was more impressed about something else. "Segoii! You also cook? June is like the Wonder Woman..." He shook his head. "Ano....hai, yes, I am happy to work here. A little nervous, I guess, in honesty. If you are cook, maybe you should work here also?"

"I'm a really good cook, not as good as my sister," June said pointing toward the young woman who just walked out of the back. "I don't think I could work here, one of us has to be with the baby," she replied pointing toward her nephew. "Don't be nervous, all you have to do is try your best, you'll be great."

Kyo had been smiling listening to June the whole time, but when she acknowledged her sister, he quickly wiped the expression off his face and tried to be serious. He was just a newbie in this place. He couldn't look like he was going to slack off or fool around while he was working here. He wondered if this was how his father felt every day he left the house for work. His father was a good, kind-hearted man, but he never smiled when he departed for work.
"I will...too-ry," Kyo offered, struggling to keep his face expressionless. He straightened his shoulders--that should help with the professional appearance a bit. Looking at June's sister closer, he smiled inside. He could see a family resemblance between the two, and it occurred to him that if June was as sweet as she was, then perhaps her sister would be too. Anyway, it was better he not treat this whole first meeting as bitterly as he was at the moment. These were people he would be working with for the duration of his time in Pennsylvania. No one wanted to work with someone who didn't know how to smile.
"If you do get the chance to work here, though," Kyo whispered, keeping an eye on June's sister to see if she noticed him, "you should. I would-ah be very very happy then."

June smiled and waved at her sister who in turn smiled and waved back. "You don't have to be so serious, Na Yoon is nice, everyone here is nice," she assured Kyo. June thought about it for a moment.
"Maybe I could work here on the weekends, when Na Yoon doesn't work. It would be nice to help out with the bills," she spoke thoughtfully, then looked at Kyo and smiled. "I should ask for a job, yes?"
