This is a great coffee shop. Great atmosphere with family-friendly music, great dessert treats and all three meal types. There are umbrella tables outside, as well as tables inside the air-conditioned lively decorated cafe. This summer they have a marine theme; decorations are akin to the theme of ocean life and the beach. There are also several televisions. Just ask a waitress for a remote and a seat in one of the plush chairs by them.
The owner is Evgeny Potemerenko, Russian figure skating champion. This place is great for spotting the figure skaters who live in Pittsburgh. The top chef is World Pairs Champion Angela Rabatin, and mostly every skater comes in at least once a day to sample the various treats.
There are several signature desserts, found nowhere else. See below for some of them:
Three Rivers Float: Sort of the cafe's version of the Dairy Queen Blizzard, but better! Customer's choice of 3 ice cream flavors blended with 3 accents (caramel, chocolate syrup, Oreos, nuts, Heath bars, etc).
Carnegie Mellon Blast: Ice Cream Treat: Vanilla ice cream with melon peices: watermelon, canteloupe, honeydew.
Three Rivers Split Banana split. This dessert originated in Pittsburgh, and Evgeny has put his own creative twist on it. In a decorative boat, which is a replica of the old boat the Gateway Clipper, there's bananas with French vanilla ice cream, topped with chocolate chips, chocolate syrup, caramel, and strawberries.
