For the journals, writers must specify what medium the journals are from. If it's from a notebook, say Notebook Journal - Character's Name. If it's from a private computer journal, say so, and if it is a Livejournal or Myspace account or something like that, again, say so, and make a note of who may or may not see the entries or contact the character.
Now, in real life, it is not necessary to create a fake livejournal account or anything, just mention in the topic whether it is one or not.
I'm doing this because sometimes, in journals, one reveals innermost secrets not intended for people to see. Writers can read the journals here, but they cannot say their characters have, unless it is a public internet journal and that character has access to it.
Here's an example:
Notebook Journal: Evgeny Potemerenko
Located: in office desk.
Readers: Evgeny Potemerenko and Irina Kuznetsova (who sneaks peeks without his knowledge)
Sample Entry:
I'm having trouble with my ankle. I think I sprained the damn thing when I was jogging yesterday. Ira has put some ice on it for me.
Now, Irina knows that Evgeny sprained his ankle. However, until Evgeny tells anyone else, whether by phone or in person, no one else knows about this. That is not the case here:
Internet Journal: Hae Young Choi
Located: Livejournal.com
Readers: Everyone may read it, however comments must be approved.
Sample Entry:
Hi everyone! It's great to have this online journal. My baby is due in October! The morning sickness is terrible. Soo waits on me hand and foot though, he's so excited and happy.
Any character can figuratively create a Livejournal account and reply to this, but Hae Young has it set up so that she approves the comments before they are posted. When this is enabled, writers simply PM the author of the character, and post the comment they hope to have placed in the journal. If the writer approves, then you may post the comment.
That's about it. Any further questions/comments, don't hesitate to contact me!
