GENERAL BOARD INFORMATION
DeVito Park Figure Skating Club is a role-playing game set in present-day Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. However, we do not let that limit us. We have sections for past and future scenes as well as an alternate universe forum. Scenes can really take place anytime, anywhere, so long as it is at least semi-realistic.
While most characters are figure skaters, you do not have to create one to be a part of this game. If you are interested in the sport, but don't want to play a skater, your character could be involved in the sport in other ways. For example, your character could be a coach, choreographer, judge, commentator, fan, skating journalist or photographer; use your imagination! If you do not wish to be involved in the sport directly, you could play a character completely unrelated to the sport. You could play a musician, business owner, neighbor, teacher, plumber, whatever you want. Your character doesn't have to be a figure skater or involved with the sport to be a part of the game.
While skating is an integral part of the RPG, most of the scenes concern the skaters off the ice, away from the pretty costumes, spotlights and classical music (hardly any of which you'd find here to begin with). You will find plots ranging from G to PG-13 here, with the more serious subjects concerning abuse, murder, and homosexuality, for example. But not every plot involves these themes, which only makes the game more fun and interesting. Despite dealing with such themes, I believe this board is appropriate for all ages. There are no age restrictions, however, as there is no censorship, some aspects of the roleplay may not be appropriate for younger members. In such cases, a warning will be posted before each instance.
This game does hold annual competitions and showcases, for which skaters will need to provide programs. For competitions, these programs will be judged, using a system of random number generations to determine how well everything was done. Highest total wins, just like in real skating. For shows, programs will be presented in an entertaining format, without any restrictions: you could skate with someone you don't normally skate with, use props, whatever you like.
