As I am not going on the tour this summer, has anyone been to any of the stops? What was the show like? Did you get to meet any of the skaters backstage? I heard some places were giving out backstage passes! What were everyone's routines like, etcetera? And of course does anyone have any gossip? ;D

I went to the show in New York just like I did last year. I actually went twice, to MSG AND Nassau! First time ever!
It was so much fun. Hae Ye did her "Butterfly" program in both stops. I've never seen anything so gorgeous from her, it was even better than her "Ever After" exhibition she did last year at Worlds! She truly showed the audience why she is Olympic Champion, and now America's sweetheart. You know journalists are adopting her nickname too? They're calling her "America's Golden Dove." I was there in Pyunyang when she won her first National Title ten years ago and people started calling her that. I'm glad it's stuck with her ever since and has crossed the ocean to be with her.
Anyway, the tour... all the skaters were wonderful, especially Ordway & Dwight. It was so fun watching them skate! Angie and Arsenij reprised their "Ring" LP from this year's Olympics. This time they incorporated dialogue and sound effects from the movie!
OK, so it wasn't the same LOL. Let me describe it.
"The Ring" is a horror movie about a cursed videotape made by the ghost of a little girl who was thrown into a well many years earlier, because she was possessed by a Water Demon, and the only way to kill the demon was to drown the possessed person. Unforunately the girl didn't die from drowning, she died fromstarvation. Anyway, the water demon somehow makes a videotape that will kill the viewer exactly 7 days after they see it.
That's really all you need to know film-wise, now back to the program R&J did.
Arsenij is on the ice alone, with a telephone beside him. The speakers play the "Ring" video music and sound effects. The music ends and you hear a phone ring through the arena speakers. He answers the nearby phone and the little girl's voice hisses "Seven days." Then Angie skates out and they do mostly SBS moves, far apart at first, then gradually getting closer. They do the same elements as the LP mostly, except no throw triple Axel. I read in an interview that they only do that in competition now because of Angie's knee. They meet in the program sometimes for lifts and throws, but for the most part they're seperate. That's my chief pet peeve with them! Finally, they do SBS sit spins and when Arsenij is finished he stands and faces Angie, who's like all the way across from him on the other end of the rink. The music gets really creepy and she creeps to him, for some reason she's crawling LOL then she is on her knees, and right as she's like three feet away from Arsenij she stands up and lunges at him. They do a pairs spin combination where it looks like she's choking him (LOL that is a funny sight mind you even though it's meant apparently to be terrifying), and finally she dips him and he goes limp.
Basically... now that I think of it, this is the same formula as their "Cappricio Espagnol," "City of Angels," and "The Sixth Sense" programs. Wow that's annoying! I hate repition!
Evgeny was so beautiful in both performances. You can't go wrong with such gorgeous music either. He skated to his Adagio on Harp program, changed so thatthere are NO JUMPS, just footwork, spins, etc. I tell you, if you don't appreciate his balletic line, you must see this performance, most likely you'll feel differently. I was able to get a video clip of this GORGEOUS spiral sequence he did. We NEED more men doing spiral sequences like him!!!
*posts youtube link to spiral sequence: music is Albinoni's Adagio for Strings played on Harp: his spirals take him through the middle of the rink with a few varying positions mostly RBO*
I'll write more later! Anastasia Yurchikova was brilliant too, except for a teensy bit of a bobble on that damn triple Sal. Same as the Olympics! *cry* I was so sad when that happened... course I was happy for Hae Ye hehe. Anyway, ta!

Anastasia in an interview said that she put the triple Sal as the only jump in her program so she could work on it more during the tour, she said maybe it might help her consistency with it since that is the one she tends to fall on often in practice - but she crashed on the Lutz and flip at the Olympics, so I don't know WHAT she's talking about, her Sal was nice there.
I could do with or without Hae Young, I prefer Anastasia. I guess I like the pretty pretty extensions and spins.
After seeing O&D's program (it was the In the Mood one they've been doing all year, but holy CRAP the chemistry they have) I am convinced they're an item. They keep denying it or avoiding it. That's soooo funny.
I was left confused by Angie and Arseniy's performance. I didn't see the movie. I think everyone was kind of "um what?!"

Well I think the only people who were like that were the people that haven't seen the movie. It was a blockbuster in 2002, so most people have seen it.
FYI, the Japanese version is TEN TIMES BETTER than that American remake.
Of course, the best Japanese horror film is, in my opinion, AUDITION! Believe me, it's too real to watch and not get scared by it.
My only objection with Anastasia is that she has that damn I spin, and her skirts are always too short. I mean, come on, do we really need to see her crotch like that? She might as well just skate in a bathing suit LOL.
Remember that psycho guy who was obsessed with BDSM who posted here a few years back? He was like obsessed with Nastya and tying her up? Maybe those skirts that set him off... but I doubt it honestly, crazy people are BORN crazy. Didn't he try to kidnap her once? *shudder* wouldn't want to meet HIM in a dark alley...
Or for that matter anywhere else!

I think the I-spin is pretty amazing...but I could go without it too. Her layback is gorgeous.
That guy WAS crazy, OMG, I remember him. I'm glad he's gone. It was so creepy!
I wonder what skaters are friends with each other. It'd be weird being friends with someone who beat you in competition!

Yeah, it's pretty much a tie between her layback and Hae Ye's!
Yeah interesting question... Remember the old Potemerenko/Heawg rivalry days?

I know. It seems like all those good rivalries are over. It'll be interesting in pairs, if O&D will really get a few scares from the other teams. R&J beat O&D until last season in pretty much everything... now the tables are turned, who will Angie and Senka deal? Will W&L steal their thunder? Hmmm. The Russian men will dominate, Olys was a fluke as seen by Christian's 3rd place performance. His rivalry with Nikita Davies will be interesting. I like Christian a lot more--he's more powerful and, well, masculine with his skating. Nikita does have the jump consistency advantage over him though. I want Evgeny or Danil to clobber everyone else though. I don't know what to expect in ladies... Anastasia vs a ton of rising stars! She'll get clobbered by the little kids with the 3/3s I'm sure since she can't stand on her feet.

(posted as iluvjgroban) Oh, he was in Pittsburgh for the tour, and did this AMAZING Swan Lake program, I tell you I've never seen anything like it! He was so gorgeous up there on that ice! I missed him this season too:( Did anyone get any videos or anything of his Bolshoi performances? I wonder where he would have placed in the Olympics had he competed there... with all those quads he very well might have won! Didn't you watch Worlds Lanie? They interviewed Evgeny and he announced he was turning pro!!!!! but you still have your Danilka... Too bad he won Worlds with such dull music.

I know he chose that program because alot of fans told him they wanted to see it. As a skating purist I think he's more missed than anyone. A true skater's skater... absolutely pure quality to every movement - part talent, and also because he simply worked on his basics more than anyone else). Sasha was really coming into his own starting with 2004 Worlds. He was skating with heart, passion, and expression - great performance quality - the spark everyone saw in him as a junior, and not just technical brilliance. I'm sure he would have done well last season. P.S. I didn't see them myself, but I heard P.B.S. is going to show the Bolshoi performances on its Great Performances series sometime in the fall.

OMG really? Wow, I'll have to keep a lookout for that! I always grew up watching Sesame St. and Mr. Rogers. I never watched anything else on there though.
I have to say it was much the same as Swan 98, just different jumps, he did harder jumps. With those harder jumps it looks even more spectacular!

Wow, it sounds like a gorgeous program!
Interesting Anonymous... if you didn't know so much about skating I'd say you were... an annoying Sasha-crazed fan we had on here awhile back, we banned her username and ISP! But it was like the girl didn't give a damn about his skating, just about his... other talents shall we say. Clearly you're not that wacko!
It's nice to hear someone talking about how great the SKATER Alexander Dupont is! He's such a gifted artist. Had he competed this year I would have rooted for him LOL.

Perhaps because no one cares about a sixteen year old who hasn't been much on the international scene, Kelly? After all Anastasia is an Olympic champion.

I'm such a good photographer, aren't I? Heehee.
They skated to two new numbers at the show I went to. I heard they used their 'In the Mood' exhib from last season for a few shows before performing their other new one.
They skated ot 'All I Ask of You' for the one of her in the red dress and the blue one was for 'Con Te Partiro' by Andrea Bocelli. I like their upbeat programs better but these two were both gorgeous... You could just feel the connection between them, like Gordeeva and Grinkov (but noooo one matches those two of course!).
Anastasia skated to 'Song from a Secret Garden' in a white dress, it wasa program with a ribbon, no jumps. The red dress was for 'Fallen' by Sarah McLachlan.
I loved Zhenya's costumes.

Excellent pics!
Oh, yes, Kitlyn is a wonderful skater, I really loved watching her through the few tour stops. She had the entire audience screaming with the music "I love rock n roll!" me included! Loads of fun, especially those split jumps.
