It was late Monday morning as Soren stepped onto the rink to warm up. For years, he had started this process with his long-time partner Josephine, but now after winning an Olympic gold medal an two world titles, it was time to start from scratch again. The past few weeks he had been completely on his own, working on his skating skills and elements, conditioning, and building upon his tremendous upper body strength. Now, perhaps today would be the start of something different. He just reminded himself to be patient, and that there would be others. 'No pressure to make this work,' he said to himself as he saw Keira approaching the boards.
"You must be Keira, Soren Kristiansen," he greeted, his voice with a hint of a Danish accent that was thicker on certain words.

Keira entered a bit fast in the rink, as she was a little bit late. She was a bit nervous about this try-out... Last time she skated in pairs was in 2007, as her and her last partner barely hit the Senior ranks. Also, if Keira was somewhat unknown on the international scene... She knew a lot who was Soren Kristiansen : 2-time World champ, Olympic champ. Keira was somewhat nervous, and *for a rare time* she was doubting about her talent and capacities.
She smiled, as she saw Soren approaching to welcome her. "Yes! Glad to meet you!" She said, as she offered her hand to shake. "This rink is awesome!" she smiled. "I'm sorry, I'm a bit late... I hope you're not waiting for me for too long.." she added.

"Oh no, don't worry about it. I was just getting warmed up myself," said Soren with a wave of his hand. Despite the intense, highly competitive nature of the sport, he was still so easy going, never really letting much get to or annoy him. "Why don't you do the same, and then we can get started?"

"Sure!" Keira said, as she sat on the bench and quickly put her skates on. She put her skate bag under the bench and got on the ice. Then, she put her bottle of water on the boards and she started stroking a bit arounnd the ice, putting her sweater around her waist.
After a moment, she joined Soren. "Okay... so, we start with what ?" she asked.

"From the ground up," Soren suggested. "We'll start with just stroking together, maybe add in some footwork. Once we're comfortable with that we can try some basic lifts and throws. How does that sound?"

"Sounds good!" Keira said, with a nod. They started to stroke together, and they were in sync very quickly. "So, why did you and Josefine decided to come training here ?" she asked... as she remembered reading an article about them moving in the US for training 2 years before the 2010 Olympics. OOC: I totally made this up... if it's not alright, just tell me ; I will change it. I was just trying to find a subject of conversation between them!

"Actually, I'm new to this rink as well. However, you're right we did choose to move to the U.S. to train after the 2008 Olympics. We both felt like it was something needed to really take that next step. Henrik was a great coach, but the training conditions weren't always the best, coupled with not being able to work with our actual choreographer very much after our programs were choreographed. We felt it was hampering our progress," he explained.
He smiled noticing that she was in step with him. "We've gotten off to a good start."

Keira nodded a little, as she listened at Soren. "It was a courageous move, but it paid off at the end." she commented. "I always trained in Québec City. My last partner never wanted to leave the rink there, even if it could have been helped us to progress. It was a bit annoying..." Keira said, laughing a little.
Keira smiled at Soren's comment. "Yeah, it's looking good so far!! Do you want to add an element ? I think we can try some footwork.." she suggested.

"I'm lucky in that English is fairly commonly spoken in Denmark, so that was something that made the transition much easier," he explained. "But yeah, even if I'm all grown up and an only child, it's hard being away from my parents and friends. Now, I'm in another new place though, so time to start over again!"
"Sure, we can try putting in some turns now," he agreed.

"I totally understand you on that... I'm here only since a few days, and I miss my family and friends a lot already." Keira said. "I guess I will get use to this, if I have to leave Québec City." she added.
"Okay" Keira nodded at Soren's suggestion. "You can go, I'll follow!"

Soren nodded, adding playfully. "Well, you know how it is some times. Live, breathe skating 24-7- you forget about everything else. Or at least that's what our coaches hope!" he joked.
"All right," he answered, taking a few more strokes before starting to perform some simple turning steps.

Keira laughed. "I think my coach gave up on this! Anyway, she always insist that I take a little bit of time just for myself" she explained with a smile.
Keira watched Soren, before she started to follow him. Keira had a little bit of difficulties to start, but quickly joined Soren and they were in sync.
